Plans for GEF [message #247379] Wed, 18 February 2009 09:28 Go to next message

Hello Anthony,

My project is using GEF for more than 2 years. Now a days I notice that
more and more new features are added to GMF, while GEF stays with most of
the existing features itself.

Even two out of the three existing committers in GEF are working for GMF
project.

Do I need to migrate my project to GMF to make use of all the new features
provided by GMF?

Is there any plan to keep GEF as the core engine of GMF? And to provide
all the cool new features only in GMF? It would be great if you could
comment on the future plans of GEF.

Thanks in advance,
Madhu

Hi Madhu,

Actually, for Galileo / 3.5, we have been adding small features to both GEF
and GMF.

Yes, you need to use GMF to take advantage of the GMF features.

GEF plans are here
http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project-plan.php?projectid=t ools.gef

Cheers...
Anthony

One more question,

Is there a plan to keep GEF as just the core engine for GMF?

Regards,
Madhu

i have the same question as Madhu.

Is there a plan to integrate nice features in GMF such as printing, svg
etc. into GEF?

best regards
