We can change connection creation policy easily in CreationToolEntry suppling ConnectionDragCreationTool or ConnectionCreationTool. How to do it in GMF? I need to connect two edit parts not by dragging, but clicking:
1) Select connection tool
2) Click on first edit part
3) Click on second edit part
4) Connection is created

If GEF's connection creation is enough for you, which, based on what
you've described, looks to be enough (from GEF logic and shapes example
editors) - you can just use GEF's ConnectionCreationTool, i.e. so your
tool entry would be GEF's ConnectionCreationToolEntry.
Hope this helps.
