Since M7 my key binding (Ctrl-A) to do File/Save no longer works. I've
tried setting it up several times in the Preferences/Workbench/Keys tab but
it just won't take.

Depending on your selected mode (Emacs or otherwise), Ctrl-A is
probably already bound to another function. You have to remove
the built-in binding first, otherwise, the built-in binding always takes
precedence, regardless of your add-on binding.

Actually, Ctrl-A is not working in M8 (just upgraded 15 minutes
ago), was working just fine in M7 ... what a bummer!

I used the emacs-binding, and was working nicely. Now, the default
"select all" works, but I can't rebind to "line start" anymore.

What is so stupid is, everytime you upgrade, you lose all your
key bindings, and have to rebind everything again :(

And worse, there's this default and emacs key binding, but
even if you select emacs, the default key binding still takes
precedence. What's the point then? And this happens in all
versions.

This might be related to the bug I just filed (#56453) which prevents me
from modifying the default key bindings.
