New to VE [message #20783] Thu, 26 February 2004 11:35 Go to next message

Hi everyone, I have been using eclipse off and on (I'm a DBA learning Java)
for about 1-1/2 years, and have used Netbeans in the past (too
big/slow/cumbersome). I grabbed VE today (tried and had problems last week,
read docs and newsgroup, installed fine today! ;) doh!)

Anyways, I am curious since I haven't seen anyone ask about this, is there
an add on for a SWT visual editor? I have a bunch of code I'd like to work
on in SWT, and I think VE would be perfect for fleshing it out.

Thanks for your response,

Ben Carlson

It is in development stage. The current VE (released today) has some
simple example of working with an SWT shell. We are not yet ready for
prime time.

I am working on RCP development, but I find a difficulty using a view,
because we must use the coding manual mechanism.

Is there a status for VEP to make a SWT/JFace Designer, I try VEP 1.0,
and there is only Swing.

To bring up the SWT palette you will have to add the SWT container to
your build path (project->properties, Java Build Path, add Library)

As a first goal, VE will provide SWT support. JFace support and RCP
support are not targeted for v1.0.0. It is more than likely that you
will find this support from commercial vendors building on top of VE.
