I thought I'd share some news with everyone. We are making good progress
on the proposal.
1. The two eclipse elected committer directors, John Wiegand and Bjorn
Freeman-Benson, attended a workshop that was held at the IBM Toronto Lab
on April 8-9 to give us feedback and guidance on the proposal.
Christophe Ney, Naci Dai, Mitch Sonies, and myself attended. The
workshop was very productive and encouraging. Christophe is revising the
proposal to reflect the input we received.
2. John and Bjorn are planning to give a progress report at the eclipse
board meeting to be held on April 15. If we get a favourable response,
the next step is to publish the proposal.
3. After the proposal is published, there will be a call for
contributions, and a "code camp" will be scheduled to review the
contributions and to establish an initial development plan.
I know there have been a lot of delays, but now we are actually working
through the new Development Process established by the eclipse
Foundation, and I am optimistic that we will see this project get
activated in the near future.

I'm sure you're working hard on this, and I don't want to belittle that.
However, I can't be the only one who's a bit worried by how slowly this
is proceeding.
Do you (or others) have an estimate of when code (in whatever unprepared
state) may be made available ?
If code from IBM were not sitting idle, I don't think I'd be as
concerned, but it seems that we have the meat that the developers are
waiting for, but have to wait for the bureaucracy to be constructed.
Are there any plans to streamline this process for future projects ?
Thanks for the update.
