On the surface, the goals of the OpenRemote.org project sound a lot like the goals of the Eclipse SmartHome project. At a high level, how will Eclipse SmartHome be different from OpenRemote?

Hi Mark,

As far as I know, OpenRemote is a solution offered by a company with commercial interests - although the code is available under Open Source, the license is very restrictive and not all parts are made available (e.g. the UI designer).
Furthermore, it does not have a truly modular architecture, but rather is a monolithic solution.

Eclipse SmartHome tries to provide a modular and flexible framework to build Smart Home solutions on top. Note that it is not meant to provide a "product" for the end user, though (this would then be rather openHAB). Being a framework, it would be possible that future versions of OpenRemote could make use of it as well - but to know their plans, better ask them Smile

Regards,
Kai
