Modifying and Bundling Monkey with a commercial product [message #1653] |

Hello,
My team is thinking of bundling a modified version of monkey with our
commercial product.
Obviously we will do that accordingly to the EPL license: we will publish
the source code of our modified version of monkey.
Do you see any particular issue with what we plan to do? Do you have any
concern with the fact that monkey could appear in a commercial product?
Thank you for your answers

Laurent:
If I may, I would suggest that rather than just publish the source code of
your modified version, those modifications may be of interest to the dash
project itself ?
May be they could be contributed back as patches?
And if you fill us in on what kind of modifications you are looking after,
that would raise the likeliness of those making it in the code base, to
everyone's benefit:
- you would not have to maintain a modified version if your mods are
accepted by the committers, and make it to the code base,
- everyone could enjoy those new or modfied features
What do you think?

Great! No, as long as you follow the EPL (make the changed source
available, keep the copyright statements, etc) there is no problem at
all. In fact, if you'd like to re-contribute the changed source back to
the Dash project, that can cover the EPL publication requirements.
Note that the EPL only requires that you make *changed* source available
- any new source you write, such as new DOM plug-ins, do not need to be EPL.
