Importing MyEclipse Projects [message #200871] Mon, 01 October 2007 18:18 Go to next message

I have a whole bunch of Dynamic Web Projects that I made in MyEclipse. I
can import a MyEclipse project into Eclipse (Eclipse Europa 3.3.0), but
Eclipse does not recognize the project as a Dynamic Web Project. How can I
add Dynamic Web Project capabilities to an existing project?

More generally, what is the right approach to use if I want to make
projects and distribute them to developers that are split between Eclipse
and MyEclipse?

Cheers-

Hi Marty,

As far as I know MyEclipse does not utilize the Java EE perspective provided
by WTP, but implements its own tools for Java EE development. This is the
reason for MyEclipse projects are not recognized by WTP as Dynamic Web
projects, but as a plain Java projects.

There is no automatic way to convert your projects to Dynamic Web project.
However, there is a manual way - follow this newsgroup posting:

Sadly, this idea (just make a new dynamic Web project and copy all the
pieces to the right places) does not help me. My goal is to make projects
that can be distributed to developers that use *EITHER* regular Eclipse or
MyEclipse, and have the projects recognized as Web projects in either IDE.
My initial strategy is to start with MyEclipse projects and add in the
necessary WTP facets, since I already have a huge pile of MyEclipse
projects. But any other strategy people suggest is fine.

Surely there must be a way to make a project that can be loaded in either
regular Eclipse or MyEclipse and be recognized as a dynamic Web project?

Any and all suggestions welcome!

Cheers-
