SVN without subversive? [message #19044] Tue, 02 June 2009 10:30 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hi there again,

I was just wondering whether it was possible to use the development
Epsilon from the SVN without having to first load Eclipse to pick up the
plugins, and then spawn another child Eclipse to make use of them? E.g.,
use another SVN client (e.g., tortoise) to download them into the Eclipse
plugins directory, so on initial startup it sees them (I've had a go at
this but failed :) )

This is only a small query, and I'm able to work -- but was just wondering
anyway as my poor laptop is begging for some more memory :)

Thanks,

Edd

Hi Edd,

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a way to do this.

However, except for the stable update site, there is also the interim
update site which we update a lot more often (e.g. after fixing a bug or
adding a minor new feature):

http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/gmt/epsilon/interim/

Cheers,
Dimitris

Hi Edd,

You cannot do what you suggest directly because the plugins won't be
packaged in a form that Eclipse recognises. However, you should be able
to download from SVN, export the plugins, copy them into your
Eclipse/plugins (or better Eclipse/dropins) and restart Eclipse. If you
install them into dropins, make sure to deinstall any Epsilon plugins
previously installed through the update site.

Best regards,

Steffen
