Hi,
I am programming standalone Java applications, using Eclipse 3.2. I have
heard of MyEclipse. It is not free, right? I am curious what is good
about MyEclipse.
Since I am developing Java standalone applications, does it make sense
to purchase/install MyEclipse?
Thank you.

I personally have found MyEclipse to be worth the $30/00/yr subscription. It does provide
deployment to a variety of servlet containers and appservers, including JBoss and Tomcat,
although you will probably want to develop Ant scripts for deployment if you have more than
one target server, or if you need finer control over deployment. There are a number of wizards
and GUI tools for various J2EE components, and you can examine the generated Java and XML
code to assist your learning process.

| I am new to J2EE development. I am from Microsoft background basically and
| have developed few small programs using Servlet and JDBC(in school).
|
| I want to learn building J2EE web apps. Would it be a good start for me to
| purchase MyEclipse $30/ yr subscription? Would it allow me to test, debug,
| and deploy web application using JBoss or any other portal server?
|
| Thanks in advance for your help.
