MyEclipse requires a yearly registration fee.

MyEclipse is used for Web applications, so it would not help you at all
for standalone applications.

MyEclipse offers dozens of features, many of which can apply to
"general" application development, not just web apps. Many of the
features are related to J2EE but others are not.

I personally have found MyEclipse to be worth the $30/00/yr subscription. It does provide
deployment to a variety of servlet containers and appservers, including JBoss and Tomcat,
although you will probably want to develop Ant scripts for deployment if you have more than
one target server, or if you need finer control over deployment. There are a number of wizards
and GUI tools for various J2EE components, and you can examine the generated Java and XML
code to assist your learning process.
