How to render labels above other figures [message #192771] Mon, 22 August 2005 20:10

Hi,

I need some advice on the best way to do this and any help will be greatly
appreciated.

I have a 'parent' EditPart (just a rounded rectangle) who's children are
various shapes with an oppostional label floating to the left or right of
the shape. Currently the label is part of the figure for the shape which
means that if the parent is sized down the label figure is clipped.
However, I require the labels to render above all other figures (including
connections actually).

My limited gef experience suggests I create a new layer and add the label
edit part figures to that layer. However I am unsure what the best place
to add the new layer is and how to specify the target layer for particular
edit parts (ConnectionEditParts seem to do this in the activateFigure
method but GraphicalEditPart doesn't have this). I'm also wondering if
there is a more obvious approach which I am missing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Tas.
