How to know which translation plug-in is missing? [message #18283]

This is difficult. PDE developed a tool named Plugin Spy. That would
make a nice enhancement to their tool to be able to locate the source of
the text.

If you think this is interesting, please file an enhancement request
against PDE, and reply with the bug number here!

You can install language packs through the update system.

More than that requires that you get a build system that would
incorporate the nl fragments.

Hi Antoine/Lee,

Thanks for the valuable discussion.
In fact some of that I noticed would help products like IBM RAD, too !
I have not deep-tested 7.5 yet, but in a few cases I noticed during a
recent article on RAD 7 vs. Oracle WebLogic that hidden spots like
ToolTips were not fully translated, while the visible UI usually is.

Of course other Plugins I added like Mylyn are not translated either.

I proposed the general idea of having a Translation Context in Mylyn,
too. And where tools like Spy should work on that basis, it would be
cool to have a list of missing translations somewhat similar to errors
or warnings in Eclipse today.

The simple form of that by showing the messages not fully translated yet
are of course covered by Babel Message Translation Plugin already, but
what you discussed goes more into "introspection" of a live Plugin
during runtime.

I know there is a Babel feature for Live Translation out there, too, but
I cannot say, whether it is out yet?

Please check in Bugzilla. I am pretty certain that particular one would
be the best companion for Spy. Sure both might wanna talk to Mylyn if
used, but that is further "Candy"

I don't know how Mylyn would fit in there. I would think that Plugin Spy
could help by pointing the user to the URL of the missing String, so
that he can click on it, enter Babel, and enter the new translation.

Mylyn has its own list of open tasks or issues. I cannot tell for sure,
if it was possible and easy enough to plug into that, or rather try
showing a list of missing translations some other way?

Current Babel Message Editor Plugin also uses the standard Eclipse
warnings/tasks instead.

I helped a bit with that. My colleague Hugues had a lot of fun doing
most of it though :)
The problem is to bring the value entered by the user for the
translation to the Babel DB. The shortest path to make it work is to
provide a link to the exact URL in the Babel webapp so people go and
contribute over there. If you feel like hacking something that connects
the dot between Mylyn, the Message Editor and the Babel DB, that would
certainly ease up the process a bit more.

On the other hand, this solution is quite heavy and would be only
devoted to people who intend to translate: you don't install Mylyn, the
message editor and Plugin Spy together by accident.

With just Plugin Spy, the adoption barrier is lower imo.
