I probably just have a setup issue here but I thought I'd see if anyone
has run into the same issue. I'm running Eclipse 3.1RC3 and from the
GEF downloads page I grabbed the RC3 GEF-ALL download and installed the
features and plug-ins. I can create a .shape file just fine and mess
around with it but when I attempt to import the
org.eclipse.gef.example.shapes project I have an issue. The project
doesn't seem to be a java project. I had to manually edit the .project
file to add the java nature and builder. This immediately made me think
I was doing something wrong. Once I added the builder and the nature
and fixed imports in the shape project everything builds fine. Has
anyone else run into this?

Thanks,
Brad

I have run into the same thing with all GEF example projects. My
assumption was that this is a general problem with PDE (introduced in
3.1RC1), and therefore I created a bug report at
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=99357

Thanks. I'll add a comment on the bug.
