Our of memory error - How to increase memory usage? [message #182450] Tue, 20 January 2004 12:32 Go to next message

I am using Eclipse 3.0M5 (build : 200311211210). I get either "out of
memory" error (with window suggesting that I exit out of IDE) or Eclipse
gets really slow after a while. I noticed in my TaskManager that Eclipse
memory usage never increases more than 115MB.

I read that eclipse.exe supports same -X parameters that java.exe would
support. I have tried supplying parameters "-Xms128M -Xmx256M" to
eclipse.exe at the startup hoping that max. heap size of memory would go
upto 256M. And this has not helped nor I have seen increase in memory usage.

Any other insights? Is there any other way to increase Eclipse memory usage?

Thanks.

specify the -X args using -vmargs as an argument for the eclipse executable

Put "-vmargs <java-vm-args>" at the end of your command line

PS. Search "command line" in Eclipse Help for more information.

do you feel the memory usage is accurate? hard to believe Eclipse itself
could be using so much memory. It starts a new process for the debugger
and running your program I believe.

You got lots of plugins going?
