If I understand things properly so far, when you download and "install"
3.2.1 of the SDK you are putting in Eclipse and the JDT. (Is that right?
If otherwise then my further questions might be a bit off. If so I'm sorry
and please correct me on that.)
Now based on that what languages/filetypes are understood by the "system"
when installed to that point? Java is able to be edited, compiled and
debugged, correct? Anything else? I mean if I brought up for instance an
XML file would there be something in there that would recognize that?
I'll leave it at that for now, though you can see where I'm going with
this. I have tried to analyze my development needs and I will need my IDE
to support a number of different languages and file types. So I kind of
need to know what files are supported in the "bare bones" implementation.
Then I can go searching for ways to support other filetypes and languages.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Christopher

The bare-bones SDK install can handle Java, Ant, .properties, and a few
other basic file types. If you want XML, your best bet is to install the
WTP (Web Tools Platform/Project) which includes support for lots more
file types including XML, HTML, JSP, SQL, and many others.
WTP can be easily installed via the Update Manager.
Hope this helps,
Eric

Thanks Eric, I'm doing some rather systematic investigations of my
development needs and then determining how best to handle them so that
Eclipse can be kind of an overall command center of sorts. And analyzing
the file types needed I saw that LOL I need a lot, like JavaScript, C#,
ActionScript, C/C++, XML HTML..you get the idea. I "program" in all those
on a relatively constant basis. So I need the answer you provided. I've
done some looking around SourceForge and EasyEclipse and such to see
what's there and I'll for sure check into the WebTools project as you
recommended.
Thanks again and have a good one,
Christopher
