now that classes like AbstractTreeEditPart are part of the GEF plugin, I
had some cool ideas that would use Figures as visual representation of
TreeItems. Whereever I looked to do it, I found something like "not
intended to be subclassed" and no Figures.
Any plans to support Figures in/as an outline Tree without the need for
me to build it from scratch?
Or am I digging in the wrong place? Is there an outline tree that uses
AbstractGraphicalEditPart?

You mean a Draw2d tree? Sorry, no plans for that. We'll gladly accept any
contributions though.
