Eclipse doesn't show launcher configuration "SWTBot Test" [message #16458] Wed, 21 January 2009 16:07 Go to next message

Previously I started the RCP JUnit Tests not as SWTBot Test because of the
compatibility issue. I had problems backporting the SWTBot plugin to
Eclipse 3.2.2, which now is not needed since we migrated to 3.3.1.

Now I tried to use that special launcher. I thought that I have to do this
in order to install the SWTBot plugin which provides this extra launch
configuration:

1. Export plugin "org.eclipse.swtbot.eclipse.ui" so that a jar file is
created like "org.eclipse.swtbot.eclipse.ui_2.0.0.200901211658.jar".
2. Copy that file into the dropins folder of Eclipse 3.4.x or into the
plugins folder.
3. Start Eclipse (with or without -clean option).
4. Go to "Run>Run Configurations" and see "SWTBot Test" there.

But I don't see that launch configuration there. I tried it several times.
It seems that Eclipse doesn't install or activate that plugin at all.

What is wrong?

I don't know what is wrong... I tried the same and I couldn't see the
"SWTBot Test" either.

It migth comes from eclipse.

I tried to install by directly inserting the SWTBOT plugin in eclipse's
plugin directory. This is not recommended ... but it worked for me.

But in the end, I'm not using this method.
I set the Eclipse Update manager to point to the swtbot update site.
Then eclipse downloaded it and installed it properly. That's good because
it will now be able to detect updates on swtbot and download it.

Eclipse Update manager : menu HELP > Sofware update

Which Update Site URL did you use? I haven't found any for the new version
of SWTBot which has been migrated to the Eclipse project.

Finally got my commit access to orbit resolved.

I'll be pushing out an 'official' build this weekend. You can download a
recent build here:
http://swtbot.sourceforge.net/artifacts/2.0-eclipse/update-s ite/

Thank you. It works when I install it this way. But it installs much more
than I wanted. As it seems I cannot just install the SWTBot Test launcher
plugin. This was possible previously, even in a former 2.0 stream version
I think. I guess I have to export all these plugins now:
org.eclipse.swtbot.eclipse.ui, org.eclipse.swtbot.eclipse.core,
org.eclipse.swtbot.swt.finder, org.eclipse.swtbot.eclipse.finder and
org.eclipse.swtbot.eclipse.spy.

Will you close sourceforge repository then soon? Because I feel its
confusing to have two of them, one at Eclipse and one at Sourceforge, with
potential different versions. The SWTBot update site will be on Eclipse
pages too I guess and closed on Sourceforge?

Yes, I'll be closing everything at Sourceforge and redirect everything
to the eclipse website.
