Can't Add Trace to SysML Requirement [message #1122459] Tue, 01 October 2013 11:46 Go to next message

I am trying to trace a requirement back to a use case. Very similar
to Figure 12.20 of Friedenthal's "A Practical Guide to SysML" book.

In order to isolate the problem, I created a fresh SysML project in an
empty directory and asked for a requirements diagram as the first diagram.
I then selected a requirement from the palette and dragged it onto the diagram.

So far so good.

Next I created a use case diagram and a simple use case.

Now, returning to the requirements diagram, I want to add a <<trace>> relationship
relating the requirement to the use case. However, when I select the requirement,
all the SysML properties controls such as "Derived", "Traced", "Satisfied by" are all greyed out.

Also, the palette does not offer an edge for "Trace" which it really should)

index.php/fa/16342/0/

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

David Hetherington

Hi Nathan,

Out of curiosity: Is there a reason for you not to use the new SysML 1.4 editors in which you can create a trace relationship via the "Edges" in the palette?

Hi, the "traced to" fied is readonly in SysML exactly as "sastisfied by" and "verified by".
This fields are automatically computed by adding elements in the model.

For the field "traced to" you need to add a dependency stereotyped "trace" between you requirement and you other element.
For "satisfied by" you need add a "satisfy" link between you requirement and your block
For "verified by" this a "verify" link.
