During code generation, how do we emit warnings and errors to the Progress pane in Eclipse?

And more difficultly, how do we determine the file, line, and column number of the source file to reference these to? Does Xtext store this metadata in the EMF model in EObject?

P.S. I tried to google for this, but keywords "report error xtext code generation" return unrelated results. Apologies in advance if I missed this in the documentation or a previous thread of this forum.
