eclipse 3.2 won't start [message #163270] Wed, 02 August 2006 09:20 Go to next message

Hi,

I've downloaded eclipse 3.2 and the JRE 1.5.0 on a linux platform. Eclipse
is unzipped into /opt/eclipse. When starting /opt/eclipse/eclipse I get
the following error message:

JVM terminated. Exit code=1
/opt/JRE-1.5.0/jre1.5.0_07/bin/java
-Xms40m
-Xmx256m
-jar /opt/eclipse/startup.jar
-os linux
-ws gtk
-arch x86
-launcher /opt/eclipse/eclipse
-name Eclipse
-showsplash 600
-exitdata 2e0009
-vm /opt/JRE-1.5.0/jre1.5.0_07/bin/java
-vmargs
-Xms40m
-Xmx256m
-jar /opt/eclipse/startup.jar

Executing the java command from the command line yields

Failed to load Pango module for id: 'BasicScriptEngineFc' (repeated many
times).

Choosing motif instead of gtk shows the splash screen without error
messages and finishes silently - no eclipse :-(

What am I missing?

Thank you for your help,

Christina Rossmanith

Hello,
Did you check if the Pango library is installed on your Linux platform?

Hi,

yes, there is a lot of pango in /usr/local/lib :-)

/usr/local/lib/libpango-1.0.so /usr/local/lib/libpangox-1.0.so
/usr/local/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so /usr/local/lib/libpangoxft-1.0.so
/usr/local/lib/libpangoft2-1.0.so

These files are links to .so.0, .so.0.1000.0 and .so.0.400.1. *.la files
are present as well.

Pango should be version 1.4. Are shared libs fine or do I need some java
version of pango?

This looks like a local installation. Is there a reason not to use
libraries provided with your distribution?

Hi,

I don't remember exactly why, but I've compiled pango on my own. Something
is wrong with my pango installation but I can't figure out what it is.
Firefox e.g. is using pango as well and doesn't cause any problems. I
think I'll try the motif version...

Hi,

my problem was a pango problem and could be solved by installing a recent
pango (which requires cairo and glib as well...).
