Date for WTP 1.0 Maintenance Release??? [message #156137] |

Reading the news group it seems that several people have encountered
problems they would like to see fixed as soon as possible; some have
grabbed post 1.0 builds in the hopes of obtaining a fix.
Has a release date for a maintenance release for WTP 1.0 been selected
yet? If it has been posted, could someone provide a link to the web page
where that date appears?
I've attempted to find the maintenance release schedule for WTP 1.0, but
have not been successful.
Thanks in advance!

Andreas, I am a person who has encountered and been frustrated by a
couple of those severe problems, and I would love to see a patched
release as soon as possible, but I don't agree with the idea of rushing
the next release out the door, however severe the current problems are.
I think the team has to take the time to first be sure that all
serious defects have been investigated and repaired. I think that there
was a rush at the end to get the 1.0 release out. The problems with the
late 1.0 RCs were reported on this ng and in Bugzilla, but the inertia
of the process steamrolled over them and prevented adequate
investigation. The result was that a lot of hard work by a lot of
people was cast into shadow by a couple of bugs.
I would rather wait whatever time is necessary and have a well-tested
release -- with no ominous hints in Bugzilla about bugs that seem to be
slipping by -- than get a 1.0.1 immediately only to find out it also has
serious problems.

You're both right.
I hate to see them rush a 1.0.1 release and not do the job right.
But it's very unfortunate for them to launch a 1.0 that turns out to be
so buggy and have such a long time until a bug fix release.
BTW, I'm using NetBeans 5.0RC1 and it's very stable. Switching wasn't
that painful. I'm very happy.
I'll be excited to check back later and see what Eclipse comes up with
in the coming months in the WTP 1.0.1 release and the 1.5 milestones.

Keep in mind that the Released Maintenance builds aren't going to be
(at least we hope not!) as volatile as Nightly builds. They're
meant to only contain tested and approved fixes for 1.0.1, so in
theory it should be nothing but good news for you as we approach our
1.0.1 date. If your favorite bug has been marked as fixed in 1.0.1,
it will turn up in a maintenance build fairly soon and you should go
ahead and try out the build. Verifying that the changes do, in
fact, solve the problems would be a very good thing for bug
reporters to do *before* we declare 1.0.1.
