hi !

I am using a multi-monitor setup and was used to undock the windows in
R1 (WSAD Entry) so i could move , for example, the console and tasklist
to the other screen.

with R2 this is not possible anymore?

fast view does not satisfy my needs.

i also tried to use a new window, but this also fails when do some
actions (like dblclick on a task) in the view/window, the classfile (or
what ever) opens in the new window instead in the old.

is there a way to bring back the usability of the R1 windows ?

thanks in advance
Thomas

Please use the tools newsgroup. AFAIK there is nothing what you could
do (besides hacking eclipse) to get the old behaviour back.
You should file a bug request for platform ui.

Sorry that my post gone the wrong way but the eclipse-newsgroups are
very confusing.
*.tools: what are tools? plugins ? eclipse-launcher? JDKs ;) ?
this group is so crowded by completely different stuff...
*.technology: for me tech. is the UI, maybe the API's or the entire IDE
design

i think the groups should be renamed and completely reordered.
*.plugins
*.java
*.c
*.ui
or something like this

bye

You are not the only one with an opinion on this topic:
http://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=19399

I really hope *something* is done about it.

On the one hand, it's true that the names are confusing. But
on the other hand, how much time does it take to glance at the newsgroup
descriptions on the eclipse website to see which one is the correct
place for your post instead of just randomly guessing?

I just tried checking how long it would take to open a web-browser, go
to eclipse.org, click on "newsgroups" and see the descriptions. 18
seconds.

Is that *really* too much to ask?

If you made the same comment in the CDT newsgroup, I would accept what you
say. I don't know why people ask java or SWT question in that newsgroup.
However, when the names seem like they mean something one doesn't bother to
read descriptions. Look at how many times you have needed to say the same
thing. It should be obvious that people think that technology is the basic
project and that tools are plugins or something like that. Would you be
happy reading a program that says:
while ( increasingIndex-- > zero) doSomething();
Just read the program, it's obvious what it is doing.

Case overstated to emphasize the point. Anyway, correct the newsgroup names
or put up with the endless stream of misplaced questions.
