Maybe this is obvious but I haven't found a confirmation...
Currently I use the following version of eclipse
Help -> About Eclipse SDK
Version: 3.1.1
Build id: M20050929-0840
I have tried to update my version of eclipse..
Software Updates -> Find & Install.. ect.
I have tried multiple times & noticed the latest eclipse version is
Eclipse SDK 3.1.2, but my original version never updates.
Install/Update Valid updates is set to equivalent.
Is there any way to update the SDK version w.o. performing
a complete download.
Thanks.

per

"....you could update within a release, but couldn't update from
one release to the next.
If you want 3.1.2 or 3.2, you'll need to go install those, not
try to update to them."
Is this confirmed & is there any plans to modify this behavior in the
future?
It seems problematic to customize one release only to have to start from
scratch when the next one arrives, or is there a way to mitigate this.
I've looked for info on this but haven't found any. Any input would be
appriciated. Thanks.

Upgrading from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 should be handled by the Update Manager.
I'm pretty sure I've done exactly that on my home machine.
In any case, this page and those it links to might help you:
http://eclipsewiki.editme.com/Upgrading
Using the advice there it is not a big deal to migrate between different
Eclipse installations.
Hope this helps,
Eric
