Has there been any attempt to make eclipse on OS/X? If so, can anyone
provide insights/guidance?

Thanks,

Have a look at the platform-swt-dev mailing list archives, available on
www.eclipse.org. There has been extensive discussion about the possibilities
of an OS/X port. They are discussing whether carbon or cocoa is the better
approach. One person has already been successful in getting the GTK port
running on OS/X.
