Suddenly, my Eclipse (GTK) 2.1 install is having major problems doing
simple things. For example, if I select a Project in the Resource
Navigator perspective, and then select 'File...New....Folder', the
wizard appears as expected. When I enter the folder name, and then
select 'Finish', Eclipse seems to hang. No folder is created, the
wizard remains visible, but in a 'disabled' state. Attempting to close
the wizard does elicit a response about having to select 'Cancel' to
end the current operation before closing the dialog, but 'Cancel' is
disabled. Furthermore, after this happens, I can click on the exit
button of the main Eclipse window, and Eclipse exits. In an attempt to
fix this, I grabbed the latest integration build (I20030422), but it
exhibited the same behavior. All this is on a Mandrake Linux 9.1
machine running the Blackdown 1.4.1 JDK, but the behavior is the same
with Sun's 1.4.1_01, IBM's 1.4.1 and IBM's 1.3.1, so I don't think it is
a VM problem.
The .log file usually includes the following ominous message:
!MESSAGE Unable to find Action Set: org.eclipse.jdt.ui.refactoring.actionSet
If anyone has any thoughts on this, please reply.

Sounds like http://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=31525
Top shows 100% CPU, half in 'java', half in 'X11'?
Start eclipse on a konsole and then kill -QUIT <PID of one eclipse
prozess) to get a thread dump, which should reveal more.
This bug is fixed in latest gtk builds (at least on debian, don't
know about mdk).

Yep, this sounds like the culprit. The comment from 4/15 about
scrollbars misbehaving is something I've seen as well. I'll have a look
around for some newer GTK builds.
Thanks,

You need to update your gtk package to gtk-2.2.1-mdk3.
See Bug 36698 for instructions.
