At this time our group is developing on AIX using the xlc compiler (and
some java), various editors (nedit and vi as group cares), gmake, and dbx,
all from the command line.
We are considering moving to x86 systems running Linux. Our manager would
like us the have the advantage of a good IDE to develop and debug from.
I have the understanding that Eclipse forms the basis for such and
environment, and came here looking for some basic how to set up. Spent the
last hour wandering the site and figured its time to ask for help. Is
there a location on this site or another that gives the basic "So you want
to write/compile/and debug using Eclipse? Here's how to get started" ?
Once I can get the basics in I figure I can come up with better and more
targetted questions as to how to proceed.
Thanks you
Dale Pennington

The best help is included within Eclipse itself when you install the
various plug-ins you're interested in. An online version of this help,
with most of the Eclipse Foundation plug-ins represented is available
here: http://help.eclipse.org/help31/index.jsp
You'll probably be interested in the "Getting Started" sections of the
Workbench User Guide and the Java Development User Guide.
Hope this helps,
- Jeff
