I currently have a javascript handler for the beforeFactory event in my rptdesign file.

I would like to move my javascript code to an external shared javascript file. In my external javascript file, I know that I can declare a function and then call that function from the beforeFactory event in my report. However, I'm looking for a more automated approach which doesn't require manually adding a beforeFactory method for each report.

Can I write a javascript method in the external javascript file which automatically overrides the beforeFactory event for any report which includes my external javascript? If so, how? (A link to a tutorial or some general guidance would be fine). Thanks.

Take a look at this example from the BIRT Exchange devShare. There are examples showing how to use java to write external event handlers for script methods.

BIRT Exchange DevShare - Scripting Event Handler Samples

Hope this helps.
