Does the stable release work with Eclipse 3.1? [message #148201] Tue, 05 July 2005 12:51 Go to next message

Hi,

I consider migrating to Eclipse + CDT. I saw the announcement of a CDT
release exclusively built for Eclipse 3.1, but if I have the choice, I'd
rather go with the stable release, which was built for Eclipse 3.0x and
use it with 3.1, if that's possible at all. Is it?

Regards,
Matthias

as far as I know, CDT 3.0x works on only eclipse 3.1
and It looks work well for cygwin.

I think nobody will relrease it for eclipse 3.0x.
CDT has great improvement in 3.0. so you'd be better use eclipse 3.1 and
CDT 3.0 RC.

in C/C++ development, there are few differences in eclipse 3.0x and 3.1
so, don't worry. just try it. if you have problem with this. post that
to here. you have us :)

I have eclipse 3.0.1 and I have tested the CDT3.0 RC1 : I confirm that
they are quite incompatible : some java class where missing to make the
cdt plugin work properly.

I think, he asked about running CDT 2.x with Eclipse 3.1. I must say i'm
not sure if this runs or not.
But as far as i know, you can use the update manager (help->software
updates->find and install) to try to download and install CDT 2.x. So if
this functions, there should exist no problems.

Marcus

That's right, that's what I meant. But I have installed 3.0 already,
testing it right now. As I supposed, it has a lot of serious bugs, the
indexer and content assist don't work at all. Everything CTRL-leftclick
does is displaying an "operation in progress" dialog. Then nothing
happens. Triggering CTRL-space on a hyperlink always causes a
NullPointerException (displayed in the statusbar). Also the . -> ::
triggers don't work, or it just doesn't offer any completions because
the indexer is broken.

By the way, if I want to file a bug in Bugzilla, how can I see if it
hasn't already been reported, without digging through every single
report which was filed in the last X months?

Regards,
Matthias
