Where can I open the "design view" for xml-file? [message #146909] Mon, 14 November 2005 07:16 Go to next message

So far I know there is a so-called "design view" for editing xml-file. But
I couldn't find it. How can I get it?

When you edit a xml-file, there will be two views for you.
One is "Source view", the other is "Design View".

It should be like what you said. I open an xml-file by right-clicking the
xml-file and select "open with" -> "xml editor" from the context menu. The
file is opened but I can't see the "design view", I just get the source
view.

What people are referring to when they mention a XML "design view"
is actually the Design page on the XML Editor. Opening the XML
Editor should give you an editor with two pages, one page showing a
tree-like layout of the file on the tab labelled "Design" and
another showing the syntax colored source on a tab labelled
"Source." Is this not what you see when you open the "XML Editor"?

"Is this not what you see when you open the "XML Editor"?"

No. :-(

Any idea?

If you look on the bottom of the editing page you'll see two tabs,
Design and Source, click on Design.

I know what you mean. But I do really can not see the Design-view. If I
open other files such as *.project or *.wtpmodules, I can see the
design-view.

I change the suffix from xml to other, but I can't still not see the
design-view. I wonder why.

What is the editor called on the association preference page?
If its says XML Editor ... then the mystery deepens.

If it says "XML Source Editor", then sounds like you have some "old stuf=
f"
in with the new (or, perhaps just some "custom" stuff with the new).

We do have, and basically work in "single page" mode, but normally don't=

surface that in a standard installation, since some users have reported =
it
confusing.

Other than the file-editor association page, not sure what to suggest un=
less you
wanted to search all your plugin.xml's to see who defines editors for XM=
L.

I suppose there is some possiblity there is simply some "old" preference=
that's cached
for editor association, and simply re-associating it may help.
