I am building an administration tool that will start and stop services on
various physical machines as well as retrieve log files, etc. We can
represent the various servers in a tree view today. However, the ideal
representation of this data would be more along the lines of a swimlane
diagram which I would normally do in something like Visio. This represents
swimlanes such as Development, Test, Production, etc. and for each swimlane,
we have the relevant physical servers such as web servers, application
servers, database servers, etc.
What would be a potential way of representing this data visually within an
Eclipse-based Java client application? Once represented visually, the user
would double-click on a server within the diagram to move to the management
page for that resource.
Thanks,
Scott Forsgren

Hi,
I wonder whether we are in the same lane so to speak.
I am a tutorial writer involved in
http://sourceforge.net/projects/compiere-mfgscm.
Our project leader has posted a configuration design for the shopfloor
control, and he uses Rio, Jini, XMLs to control the environment. I cannot
say i know more beyond these words. Hs is asking us to look into GEF/VE and
a new plugin to see whether it can achieve that.
If we are somewhat technically linked, perhaps we can share notes to learn
from each others' experience.
If so, u can give me more info, I will post u some specs.
