oy, so many problems [message #997329] Sat, 05 January 2013 23:00 Go to next message

I'm installing eclipse on my 2 computers, one is 32 bit Win XP and one is 64 bit Win 7.

So I thought I had done everything I needed to do but when I tried out the simple tutorials, I had problems with the second one, hello world with swt.

On my XP computer, I couldn't get past the beginning because there was no option for plugins in the Import... wizard.

So I tried on my Win7 laptop which at the time was still running an older version of Eclipse (Indigo) and I got all the way through to the end, and it didn't work. No window saying Hello world.

I got 2 warnings (sorry, didn't write down, but something about not having the right version of something). I wondered why the file I imported had win32.win32x86... in it when it was for 64 bit?

I thought it would be better if I ditched Indigo and installed Juno on the laptop too. I also changed from the Web IDE to the Java developer IDE.

That made it worse as now there is no plugin option, just like on my Win7 machine.

I really need to get these up and running. Why is it so hard?

Which tutorial are you trying to follow?
What were the warnings you encountered? Specifics matter.
Which files did you download (explicitly give their names)?
Which version of Java are you using on the two machines?

Do you have PDE installed? You can add it to what you have if it isn't
already there via Help -> Install New Software...
