Any news about VE for Eclipse 3.3?
I saw, that there is a talk about VE at eclipsecon this march.
Is the project back in the planing phase for future Eclipse releases, or
is there really work done for the current?
Please someone enlighten us gui-design-by-hand-haters ;-)
Kai

Hi Philippe!
I had a look to that roadmap.
IMHO, what Eclipse now REALLY misses is a visual editor for Swing and
SWT. A more generic editing framework is, of course, more exciting to
think of, but it might be a future plan...
If VE would be "back on track and in good shape", as you say (both in
functionalities and in code documentation), maybe someone else could
then get interested and involved in improving it further. So, as a user,
I feel that an excellent VE for Swing and SWT, better if thought with
extensibility in mind, would be what Eclipse really needs NOW.
Good work and... thank you!
Mauro.

How can the eclipse foundation let this project go when you have a lot of
users that want the VE?

Richard,
The foundation doesn't directly fund any development work so unless
someone steps in to fund any particular project, or simply just does the
work, it will just wither up and die. After all, the users with the
wants don't actually part with any dollars to help fund the work that
goes into satisfying their wants...

has to be affilated with a company or can the committer be a private
person working at home?

Richard,
Absolutely anyone can be a committer! The key to keeping projects
healthy is a diverse committer base so that any one person or
organization losing interest won't adversely affect the project to a
significant degree. Check out all the great people who are committers
on the modeling project.:
http://www.eclipse.org/modeling/project-info/team.php
I like to make sure that the committers have names and faces as much as
possible to help make this all feel a little more personal...
