Hi folks, I'm new to eclipse and I have a few questions about getting going with a web-app
development project. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
I've been using IntelliJ extensively for the past couple of years and I think it does set
the bar pretty high. I have talked to people that indicate that eclipse is quite
comparable so I'm willing to put in a bit of time and effort to get up to speed if this is
the case. I'm not particularly looking for all kinds of integration with various app
servers but I am interested in good editing functionality (refactoring, code formatting,
loop/exception/etc. templates, following method call references, variable declarations,
usages, etc.)
So, Is eclipse (or can it be) relatively comparable to IntelliJ?
Do I need a bunch of plugins to get comparable functionality?
Where's a good place to get quality/working/free plugins?
What release series should I be using (R-* S-*)? I don't mind a bit of instability but
don't want my code to get eaten either.
Are there any particular plugins I should/must have for web-app development? My experience
today editing struts-config.xml files wasn't particularly great. The ant build.xml editor
seems ok, but the auto-completion seemed slow and didn't always seem to be operating.
(S-3.0M7, win xp pro, 2GHz p4, 512MB ram)
Are there any good must-read docs available that describe getting started doing java
web-app development?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Derek
