R0.7.1 release dated Sep 27 -- what's your take on this ? [message #141829] Mon, 03 October 2005 10:53 Go to next message

Hi all,

Looks like R0.7.1 was released on Sep 27, however there was no
announcement in this newsgroup and the WTP Home page was not updated
either in this respect.

I feel a bit uneasy about this, especially looking at details posted on
the download page:

http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/M-0.7.1 -200509270720/

- There are no build notes or info of any sort
- the pre-requisistes list looks VERY ODD to me: it references
maintenance-grade releases of EMF and the like, not stable versions.

In contrast, the 1.0M8 release of WTP does use stable releases of the
EMF/GEF/JEM frameworks as listed on the download
page:http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/S- 1.0M8-200509230840/
I note however that there are no more build notes for 1.0M8 than there are
for R0.7.1 ...

So, here are my questions:

- can anybody confirm whether this R 0.7.1 drop is 'final' or is it just a
release candidate ?

- Is it possible to use the stable versions of GEF/JEM/EMF listed for WTP
1.0M8 with R0.7.1, or do we have to explicitly use the maintenance
releases indicated in the prerequisistes ?

Thanks for your feedback,

Laurent

PS - I should also add that the EMF/SDO prerequisite link for R0.7.1 is
BROKEN:

I don't know but there was a difference in file size between them (0.7.1
is bigger) so if anyone can comment what was added?

I went from 0.7 to 1.0M8 because 1.0M8 is linked with stable library dependencies..

Yep Fred, that's the road I may take as well at the end of the day after
initially planning to go from R0.7 to R0.7.1...

Might be irrational, but I've got a strong feeling that 1.0M8 may be more
reliable than R0.7.1... And like you said, one of the reasons is the
linking with stable libraries vs. maintenance releases story...

..exactly right thats my take as well..

The only itmes I can see that would be out of synch right now woudl be JBossIDE as they synch up with 0.7 wtp for 1.5M3JBossIDE

This doesn't make much sense though:

The 0.7 release branch WAS supposed to be the best available version while
ongoing development took place on the 1.0 branch to finalize API changes.

So I really cannot see WHY there would be a need to switch to maintenance
releases of 3rd-party library dependencies in the 0.7 branch !!??

I'm also using Hibernate Tools v3.1 alpha 5 with WTP, and as it relies on
specific releases of EMF GEF etc.. as well, I'd rather stick to release
versions..

The listing for the 0.71 drop has changed

It now lists stable libraries

I have posted in another thread asking for a link to the bugfixes for the 0.71 wtp release

I may be worng afterall in that we should update to 0.71 from 0.70..

hibernate-tools don't work with 1.0M8 too (work fine with 0.7, 0.7.1)

Hi,

To clear up some confusion, reason why 0.7.1 was not announced until today
is because we were waiting for our prereqs to rename. The one that you see
on the Web site is final and the links to the prereqs are updated with their
corresponding final maintenance builds.

Difference between 0.7 and 0.7.1 are critical bug fixes and NL fixes. As
suggested by Amy in another thread, you can query the list bugs fixed in
0.7.1 by looking for bugs that has a 1.0 M7.1 target milestone. For your
convenient, here's the query:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?query_format=advan ced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&p roduct=Web+Tools&target_milestone=1.0+M7.1&long_desc _type=allwordssubstr&long_desc=&bug_file_loc_type=al lwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&keywords_type=allwords&am p;keywords=&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&am p;bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status =RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED& emailtype1=substring&email1=&emailtype2=substring&am p;email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&votes=&c hfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype= doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time&field0-0-0=n oop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff, and many thanks for your reply, and for clarifying the situation.

Thanks a lot for including the query to look up bugs fixed in 0.7.1,
that's a time-saver ;-)

Cheers,

Laurent
