Hi all,

we're happy to announce that RAP 1.2 has been released today, as part of
Eclipse Galileo.

Most notably, this version comes with an improved look and feel, new
widgets, cell editors, and much more. For a summary of new and
noteworthy features, see:
http://www.eclipse.org/rap/noteworthy/news_12.php

We also created a new demo that shows samples of the basic widgets and
will be extended and improved over time:
http://www.eclipse.org/rap/demos.php

As always, the RAP Tooling (which includes the Runtime SDK) is available
from our update site:
http://download.eclipse.org/rap/rt/1.2/update

Since RAP is part of the Galileo release train, the Tooling and the
Runtime SDK are also included in the Galileo update site.

For the first time, we also provide a Runtime SDK Repository for those
who like to install their target platform directly from a repository
into the IDE. For details see
http://www.eclipse.org/rap/downloads/runtime-install.php

Coordinated service releases for 1.2 will be available in September 2009
and February 2010.

Now that this is accomplished, we'll soon gather and make plans for 1.3,
so hand in your wish lists ;-)

Cheers,
The RAP Team

Hi,

Congratulations to RAP Team for the release.

BTW, why the RWT Controls Demo is always marked as 'Temporarily not
available' from here ?

Regards,

Setya

Over time, the controls demo has changed from a simple demo into a
widget test tool for developers. We noticed that it is not very useful
for end users anymore and thus decided to make a fresh start with the
new examples demo. The old controls demo is still included in the
release and if you remember the URL parameters, you can still see it on
rap.eclipsesource.com ;-)

Thanks for this great release !

As for the wishlist:
- I think qooxdoo 2.8.x adoption should be done, otherwise there
is a risk in not beeing able to support the latest browsers.
As this might break a lot of custom widgets, this should be done
as soon as possible, to give devolpers time für migration.

Thanks, for your great help in making this a Javascript-leak-free

I don't think that this is an actual risk. qx 0.7 is still
maintained (0.7.5 is planned) and I am not aware that the support
for 0.7 will end short term.

Nonetheless, we are aware that qx 07. is superseded and we are
discussing ways to update the client.

Sure, plus it is a major task that needs to be started early in
order to be done when releasing.

Thanks for your input, we will consider this in our planning.

TableEditor is already supported in 1.2.

Not really.
At least two people (myself including) say that when scrolling a table
(vertically or horizontally), TableEditor-Objects are not scrolled and stay
in place.
Rüdiger confirmed that TableEditor is not supported and was only activated
for JFace CellEditor.
I quote Rüdiger:
"sorry for the late response. Your assumption is right. The
TableEditor code was only activated to support JFace CellEditors and
isn't intended to be used outside CellEditors."

Search this forum for "TableEditor" if you want to see the entire
discussion.

Thanks

Hi Andrej,

unless there is great demand or a very convincing use-case, I don't
think that we can free resources to make the TableEditor work
outside the TableViewer.

Cheers,
Rüdiger

Hi Rüdiger

as for the use-case:
i used TableEditor to place buttons into tableCells. The reason why i used
TableEditor is that i did find swt-examples how to do that on the Internet.
And i did not find any examples how to achieve the same result with
CellEditor (thought i guess it is possible).

You may have a look at my use-case on the internet.
1. Go to www.kabe-farben.ch
2. Select "Sicherheitsdatenblätter" on the left hand side.
3. On the left hand side enter "ral3003" in the field "Farbton".
4. Click on "Suchen".

or

Klick on the TAB "Baufarben/Putze" and select entries in the tree on the
left hand side.

Thanks
Andrej

Andrej,

Did you read the The JavaDoc for CellEditor and DialogCellEditor?
Plus, [1] lists some JFace snippets, maybe you will find something
useful there.

Congratulations, RAP team! Great Job...

As for wish lists, here is what I would hope to see in RAP 1.3

a) DnD support

b) FileUpload Widget (e.g. graduate Sandbox "Upload" Widget and include it
as part of RAP 1.3)

c) Performance Improvement. In general RAP is server centric application
where the UI state are maintained both on the client and server side. Is
there a possibility to have hybrid approach meaning that RAP can allow
client centric UI processing for certain UI widgets to take advantage of
client machine (e.g. processing Tree Widget, etc)?

d) Better support on Display.getDefault() in RAP. I understand there is
technical challenge to support this and there is a workaround (e.g. passing
Display as needed). However, it doesn't serve the real purpose of
Display.getDefault() API. If a true support of Display.getDefault() is
available, this will make Single Sourcing even easier.

e) GEF and Draw2D support.

f) Qooxdoo 0.8.x. Is there any chance RAP 1.3 will introduce a new UI
rendering besides qooxdoo?

g) RAP on e4 and e4 on RAP. Will RAP 1.3 be aligned with e4 and future
Eclipse 3.x?

h) HTML5. In general, HTML5 supports many enhancements including canvas, web
workers (multiple threads on the browser), etc.
Will RAP 1.3 consider to utilize HTML5?

Hi Michael,

thanks a lot for you input. It's helpful to understand the community's
needs. We'll consider this in our planning.

Regarding e4: yes, we're definitely going to support e4 applications
running on RAP, and BTW, we're making good progress:
