I am trying to do a ui builder, and one of the components in the pallette is
a org.eclipse.draw2d.Button descendant. And as I said earlier, I want to
keep the look and "alive" feel of the Button even on the at design stage
(in the EditorPart)

Are you using VEP?
http://www.eclipse.org/vep/

Even if you are not, you might want to find out how they handle this case.
I believe what they do is have the UI in two modes. That is, when
editing/building the UI, the button is not clickable.
