Coverage Statistics in TPTP 4.5.0 [message #132267] Tue, 08 July 2008 16:53 Go to next message

From reading the earlier thread "Statistical View/Java Agent in 4.5" I was
led to this list:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/4.5_Component_Reorganization#Compone nt_Organization

I would like to analyze Code Coverage and am disappointed to see it listed
as a deprecated component. When I profile a local Java application, I see
that it is not included in the choices in the Monitor tab in the Profile
Configurations dialog.

However, when I import a profile file created remotely using the
stand-alone profiler, "Coverage Statistics" appears as a tantalizing
choice in the "Open With" menu. Invariably, making that choice opens a
Coverage Statistics tab with the message:

No coverage statistics is available for display.
Either you have no trace selected in the Profiling Monitor view or the
current selection does not contain coverage statistic information.

Note:
This view is available only if the trace contains coverage statistics. To
collect this type of information, on the Profile tab in the Launch
configuration, choose the Method Code Coverage option.

This message looks to me to be out of date. I do not see "Method Code
Coverage" as an option in the the Profile Configurations dialog. Is there
a different dialog called "Launch configuration"?

More to the point, why has Code Coverage been deprecated? Are people using
Emma instead?

Thanks for any advice on analyzing Java applications for code coverage.

Ted

Hi Ted,
This behaviour appears to be a defect in that the Coverage Statistics
menu option should only be present if the trace actually has coverage
statistics. Please open a bugzilla
( https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=TPTP%20P rofiling).

TPTP deprecated the line level code coverage component due to a lack of
resources to support/enhancement the component. We did attempt to use EMMA
for our internal testing process:
