Because the current official build is so buggy, I need to install a nightly
release. I wonder how a nighlty release can be installed, if
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/pdt/updates/ only gives the current
official build. Thanks in advance.

You have to download nightly build and install it manually by extracting it
to Your Eclipse directory.

This corrupted my eclipse installation :S. I hate to do it, but now I need
to manually assemble a new eclipse installation.

Did you restart Eclipse with -clean ?
