Hello,
I am from a small ISV that is looking to use Eclipse to develop solutions.
Currently, we are looking at prototyping a UI based application that would
have to manipulate database (perform queries, updates etc) using Eclipse
technologies.
I had a question regarding tighter integration between VE, JFace Data
binding and DB Persistence.
1. Are the JFace Data Binding API's finalized? If not, is there any
specific timeframe
2. I would like to know if it is possible to have support for JFace data
binding visually. For eg: the user could select a text control and from a
context menu, pick the field that it should bind to.
3. Are there any plans to provide support for database persistence
technology like JPA inside of VE ?
How well does DALI (http://www.eclipse.org/dali/) integrate with the JFace
Binding Framework ?
I understand that these eclipse technologies are still evolving and are
great.
But it would be nice to know if in future Eclipse releases (such as
callisto), it is envisioned to bring these techologies together to provide
a more user friendly (writing less code/more visual) dev environment.
Appreciate any comments.
Thanks,
Venkat.

It is being looked at for Eclipse 3.3. I don't think it has been
finalized yet as to making it into the plan.

There is currently no VE support, and at this time no plans for it.

I don't know anything about that. Bindings specific questions (not VE
questions) need to be asked on the eclipse.platform.rcp newsgroup.
