COSMOS V1.0 is available!

COSMOS 1.0 provides support for the emerging Configuration Management
Database federation (CMDBf) standard, based on the CMDBf 1.0b
specification (http://www.cmdbf.org/). Download COSMOS 1.0
<http://www.eclipse.org/cosmos/downloads/?ver=1.0.0> and reap the benefits!

As always, we welcome your participation and feedback via this newsgroup
<news://news.eclipse.org/eclipse.technology.cosmos>, and also hope you
will actively "kick the tires" to report bugs and feature requests via
Bugzilla.

Thank you for all your interest and contributions thus far!

-- The COSMOS Team

Management Data Repositories (MDRs)

* Eclipse-integrated toolkit for creating data managers and MDRs
* Register a MDR with the COSMOS framework
* Query an MDR from the COSMOS UI, using query builder driven by
CMDBf metadata
* Example MDRs, including a simplistic one and one based on the
example data center
* MDRs accept vanilla web service requests using Axis2
* Support provided for logging in MDRs
* Example MDR provided for Aperi database, illustrating a JDBC interface
* Framework for implementing CMDBf query and registration services
* Integration between WTP Run on Server and the COSMOS UI in Eclipse
when using MDR Toolkit

COSMOS Web UI

* Deploy built-in CMDBf queries
* Manage CMDBf queries (i.e., rename, delete, create)
* Visualize graph response with a heirachetical view or graph
response view
* Display service metadata associated with the MDR query service in
the COSMOS UI
* Visualize event and statistical data with preset reports
* Persist event and statistical information into a relational data store
* Access COSMOS data from heterogeneous clients
* Visualize a CMDBf query response
* Deploy to J2EE environments (for example, Tomcat)
* Register and deregister an MDR with a federating CMDB

Extension by consumers

* A library of exemplar CMDBf queries is packaged with the COSMOS UI
* Extension points in the COSMOS UI to create complementary
visualizations in the form of Web 2.0 gadgets and BIRT reports
* Externalized messages and other user interface text across COSMOS
for easy translation

In Research

In addition to the CMDBf support provided in COSMOS 1.0, other COSMOS
components are still being developed and are in research mode. We
intend to make these components available as part of a future
release. These include:

Service Modeling Language (SML) Tooling

* Support for SML and SML-IF standards, version 1.1
(http://www.w3.org/TR/sml/), including SML and SML-IF document
validation, SML-IF editing, import of SML-IF documents and export
to SML-IF documents.
* Example data center described in SML format
* Web-based viewer composed of Web 2.0 gadgets to thoroughly examine
data from SML-IF documents

Solution Deployment Descriptor (SDD) Runtimes

* SDD provides external information to enable consumers to analyze
and make pre-deployment decisions. Consumers can be tools that are
making composition or tools making pre-deployment decisions.
* Change analysis - what will change as a result of the deployment
(software, configuration, state)
* Analyze SDDs for requirements and dependencies
* Perform operations (e.g. install, configure)
* Create MDRs describing changed resources
* Create an SDD from existing sources of deployment information
(e.g. RPM packages)
* Combine information from existing SDDs into a single SDD
* API for the programmatic creation and manipulation of SDDs
* Validate SDDs against SDD schema, or against user created
validation criteria
