[EMF Compare] How to deactivate [message #127564] Fri, 25 July 2008 19:06 Go to next message

Hi,

I've installed eclipse-modeling-ganymede-incubation-win32.zip, which
includes EMF compare. How can I turn it off to compare a uml file with
the version on cvs using plain text comparison?

(The 600KB file seems to be too big for EMF compare, it takes more than
five minutes to open the compare editor.)

Thanks,
Lutz

Hi Lutz,

org.eclipse.compare doesn't provide a way to choose the comparison
engine to use among those registered. However you should still be able
to force text comparison :

I tried it, but it does not work. Even after restarting eclipse, uml files
don't use text compare.

Preferences->Content Types->EMF Compare
*.ecore (locked)
*.emfdiff (locked)
*.uml (locked)

Preferences->Content Types->Text
*.uml
*.txt (locked)

I played a bit with the *.compare.ui plugin.xml and got rid of the locked
uml entry, but that didn't help either.

Hi Lutz,

I tested this in 3.3 and it still seems to work; was your behavior
observed on ganymede?

Either way, could you fill in a bugzilla entry so that we know we have
to provide a way to force a textual comparison (we could probably do it
by means of a preference or the such)?

Thanks

Thanks Lutz.

As a side note, we're currently trying to pinpoint performances issues
we have on some configurations with the opening of the compare editor.
You told that it takes more than five minutes to "open the compare
editor". Could you be more precise as to what takes that much time? Is
it the comparison itself (with the progress monitor showing) or the
opening of the editor after the progress monitor closes up?

Thanks

Thanks to Lutz input, the most important bottleneck has been eliminated
and UI performances should now be way better than they were. We're still
working on some flickering issues appearing on windows, but this should
be fixed soon.
