I got this in my Inbox this morning.
I think the points about how projects are in top-level projects is
valid: when I started as the Eclipse Webmaster it took me a long time to
memorize which projects are in which top-level projects.
Ultimately categorizing projects by function (C++, Java, Web Developers,
RCP, etc) as we disccussed previously, will be a good fix.

It somehow always takes longer than you expected to find something on
the eclipse.org site. If it this done on purpose, just to let people
make some effort before they get what they want, then consider this
email as not sent. Otherwise if i where eclipse.org i would do some
changes. Here ase some examples things that where confusing:
This is something when i downloaded eclipse for the first time. Eclipse
was called SDK(Sofware Development Kit). It took me a while before i
associated SDK with IDE. I thought SDK is some kind of library and not
the eclipse IDE itself. Stupid of me of course, but i bet this happens
to others too.
There are regularly announcements of new plugin versions. When you click
on the link you get to the download page. That's fine. But when you want
to know something more about the plugin there is no link to the project
page. Then you have to start searching for that in a rather unclear
project structure. A simple link to the project would be very helpful.
Several times i found myself searching for a particular project page. It
appears eventually that it is a subproject of some larger project. Only
i didnt know that and could not have guessed that either. Currently i
was looking for the ORM project, which i only found via a external link.
And maybe i should know that CDT is part of the Tools project, but it is
not obvious for someone not familiar with the internal eclipse
organisation. Suppose i have heard that eclipse has great C++ support.
Before you end up with right stuff to download and on the CDT page it
will take some time.
If I though i was the only one experiencing this i wouldnt mention it,
but i think i am not the only one. If i would have to mention something
as the root problem, i thing the site is designed according to the
internal organisation instead of what a user is looking for. The fact
that CDT is in de Tools project is interesting for people in the eclipse
organisation, but a user just wants to grab the C/C++ plugin. SDK sounds
okay for the one who develops eclipse, but not for a user.
This was just some friendly advice with the idea of being helpful.
Eclipse is a great tool and with all the new plugins in development it
will get even better.
