Hi;
I finally got around to get serious on the Eclipse ide. The basic install is fine
and dandy.
Can you please advise on add-ons that are 'must-have', that [almost]everyone uses,
for Java development?

Thanks

Good question.

1) XMLBuddy is a must for XML. X-Men is very similiar, but I find it to
die in infinent loops quite a bit which is very annoying because you
have to kill off Eclipse.

2) Sysdeo Tomcat plugin, this is a must for Tomcat devel

3) MyEclipse IDE I'm finding definately filling the void of
JSP/Taglib/Servlet/J2EE development and its only $30/year and well worth it.

4) FormatJava is a very handy plugin that lets you execute the "Format
source" command on a package, not just an open file like Eclipse has
currently.

5) Visual Editor: This is new and a MUST HAVE if you are going to do GUI
devel. I would highest suggest wtaching the viewlet ahead of time
(~15mins) as it shows a lot of functionality you won't run across on
your own.

I thikn that is everything I have installed... something to note is that
if you use MyEclipse IDE, it has controls for deploying to a tomcat
installation, so the Sysdeo plugin may not be handy. I just use it
because I set my webapp up well before I ever installed MyEclipse IDE,
so I had everything working already.

Best,
-Riyad

Thanks Riyad;

I use Swing for gui, and prefer to just code it. (Have had it 'till here' with
various gui editors.)

I definately understand that. The thing is that VE supports full
round-tripping. Meaning, you code it by hand, edit it with the editor
and visa versa... it supports the whole process. VERY cool...

The thing about it that surprised me, is that it doesn't lock the code
(Netbeans) or require a form file... it just full-on realtime evaluates
the Java code and generates the form that youc an then edit... very cool
stuff.

I live by Quantum DB (http://quantum.sourceforge.net/) and Bonevich
CVSGraph (http://www.bonevich.com/index.php). I used to use Sysdeo's
Tomcat plugin every day, when we were using Tomcat.
I also like XMLBuddy and am just starting to explore JQuery.

The DB plug-in looks extremely useful. Thanks.
