in a standalone RCP application one can store user preferences for each plugin. How does that work in RAP? I was thinking of preference pages, but also perspective customization like resizing or stacking views.

Is there a preference store per user? Maybe this is related to a login mechanism, is there an API or extension point one has to implement to provide the current user?

what you are looking for is called a a settings store [1] in RAP.
