What is the best practice for unit testing plug-in's GUI [message #114876] Wed, 10 October 2007 04:54 Go to next message

Hi,

What is the best practice for unit testing plug-in's GUI? I know there is an
automatic GUI recorde in TPTP 4.1. I am wondering why it does not become an
official part of TPTP 4.3. Is there any alternative to fulfill the same goal
in TPTP or Eclipse somewhere?

Thanks a lot,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,
I would recommend using the AGR
( http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/test/documents/userguides/Intro- Auto-GUI-4-4-0.html)
to test at the UI level or TPTP JUnit Plug-in tests to test at the API
level.

The AGR
( http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/test/documents/userguides/Intro- Auto-GUI-4-4-0.html)
is still a Technology Preview since we do not have the resources to support
the component in the GA stream (e.g. defects, testing, support, etc).

Hi Jerry,
Another option for GUI testing in Eclipse could be using of abbot
(sorceforge.net).

Igor

Hi,
I have an eclipse RCP application (JCommander
http://jcommander.sourceforge.net/). At development time I start the
application from my development eclipse using an "Eclipse Application"
run configuration. Is it possible to use the AGR for recording events
from the tested application (JCommander) and not from the development
eclipse?

Best regards,
Dan Corneanu.

Hi Dan,
Unfortunately, the AGR does not support RCP applications. If your
application were an Eclipse IDE, you could record/playback AGR tests from
both Eclipse instances.
