I've seen references to a "Page" control on the palette. I don't find one
- is there something I missed with my 2.0RC2 upgrade?

I'm trying to add page number to my MasterPage.

When you view a report in master page mode, the palette displays additional
items under AutoText. Page is the first item under AutoText.

Thanks for the reply Diana. I selected my Master Page (is that
"viewing...in master page mode?), but no AutoText item is on the Palette.
I am running 2.0RC2. Is there something in the upgrade that I'm missing?
If not, do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks again, Mark

It sounds like you are in master page mode, but just in case...

From the main menu, choose Page --> Layout more --> Master. Or, click the
Master Page tab at the top of the layout editor.

The AutoText items have been in the product since 1.0, so it's not something
that was added recently. I'm not aware of an upgrade you're missing. You
should file a bug. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks so much! I see the tabs at the top (as well as the menu items you
mention). I had not noticed them - I had used the Outline to get to the
Master page.

OK, now I see the Palette items, but when I try to use them on the Master
page, I get the "not" cursor and it won't add them. I want to have a page
number instead of the date. How do I make this change?

Thanks again, Mark

Hi Mark,

You can insert only one top-level element in the header or footer. Because
there's already a date element in the footer, you can't insert the page
element.

If you want only the page element, delete the date element first, then
insert the page element.

If you want to insert multiple elements, delete the date element first,
insert a grid, then insert as many elements as you want in the grid.

Thanks for your help Diana. I finally got it to work. I didn't know
about the "rules" you stated. Also, my palette and master page were
acting a bit flaky (sometimes works, sometimes not).

Glad I was able to help. The rules aren't particularly intuitive. Speaking
of rules, there's another one that other users have unwittingly broken: No
data set fields on the master page.
