With the next integration build, an option for running stochastic simulations has been added for (almost) all disease models. To enable stochastic simulations, set the "Add stochastic noise" flag to "yes" when you create a new disease model. You can also specify which random seed to use. Ensure that you also set the flag to true on any population model associated with your disease.

STEM adds stochastic noise at the end of each simulation time step, but is still using the (ODE) solver to do integration within a time step.

The functionality is available for the compartmental SI, SIR and SEIR models, and any model extending them. The remaining models (e.g. dengue fever or TB) will be supported shortly.

The old stochastic models (standard and poisson) has been deprecated and will not show up in the list of available models in the drop-down any longer. If you had a project using such models it will still work but since they are deprecated it is possible they will stop working in a future STEM release.

Regards,
/ Stefan
