Can't respond to bugziilla-daemon mails [message #110164] Fri, 24 October 2003 06:28 Go to next message

Maybe this is the wrong forum - if so please advise!

I got an email from bugzilla-daemon@eclipse.org discussing a bug that
I had submitted there. But when I reply to that mail I get a delivery
error:

unknown user: "bugzilla-daemon"

So how is one supposed to respond to such mails?

You are not supposed to respond to the daemon.
All comments should be added directly to the bug report.

OK - but that fact is absolutely non-obvious and easily forgotten.
Just finding a link to bugzilla didn't automatically make me aware,
that I shouldn't simply respond to this email. So maybe a
corresponding remark in these emails might help?

That might be a bug report for bugzilla...

If I remmeber correctly, then bugzilla has at least a
'12345-done@bugs.buzilla.org' feature, which is for example used at
the KDE bugzilla (via CVS: checking, add CC comoent, bug closed :).

I just searched the bugzilla FAQ and found this:
http://www.bugzilla.org/docs214/html/faq.html#AEN2093

Seems that replying to buzilla emails is possible... If Notes would
get some quoting features... :)

I very much like this way to handle bugs. Debian has a BTS completly
based on emails, without a 'control' webinterface (only viewing).
Sometimes its a pain, especially if you want to do a lot changes and
have to go through a long list examaning the individual bugs. But for
'one bug at a time', it's a real timesaver.

BTW: this would also make it posisbele to add a CC to 'submit@bugs...'
and the bug from the mail is recorded :) Would be a great feature in
the ML and Newsgroups.

Should I file a bugzille entry?
