No, without additional support.
org.osgi.service.application.ApplicationDescriptor is just the
standardized API for applications in OSGi. An application container is
required, which knows how to launch, stop or list the currently running
applications. I don't exist such application container for OS X
applications yet. You can be the first to provide it:)

perhaps we can do something in second half of this year,
at the moment the priority is to finish the prototype of
our (equinox)OSGI-based RCP client-server ERP application
(perhaps also using Riena for remote services)

of course it would be nice to be able to start applications
from osgi on all platforms
