How to update from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1? [message #107301] Wed, 05 October 2005 07:19 Go to next message

How can I update from Eclipse 3.1.0 to 3.1.1 without having to re-install
all the plugins and doing all settings again..?
I was expecting the x.1 version to appear in the software update list, but
could be that that is delayed?

I tried copying all the new files of 3.1.1 and overwriting the 3.1.0
files, but that only resulted in crashing Eclipse..

Thanks for your help.

overwritting is always a bad idea.
unzip to a separate place and point to old workspace.

The

workspace is not the problem, it's all the plug-ins and plug-in
settings I have the trouble with.

"If you had installed additional features and plug-ins into your old
Eclipse, you should re-install them in the new Eclipse."

So al the fancy updater stuff is only for the plugins and not for eclipse... :(
I was afraid of this..
Maybe that should be a great idea, have the eclipse updater updating
eclipse.... :)

Looks like I'll stay at 3.1.0

You can just copy their update urls and feed them to the eclipse
updater, but this won't work for features that don't have one, I'm afraid.

The update jars for 3.1.1 have now propagated to the mirrors.
Instructions on how to upgrade from to 3.1.1 from 3.1 using update
manager are provided in the link below.

Great! Thanks

It would have been awful to have to install every plugin and setting
for every minor maintance release :)
